Hey guys..

I am getting ready to build a new rig and i am gonna be using this board

(ASUS Crosshair IV Extreme AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Extended ATX AMD Motherboard) gonna also be using the (AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 3.2GHz 6 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor) also gonna have the (SAPPHIRE 100290SR Radeon HD 5870 (Cypress XT) 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Eyefinity 6 Edition Video Card).. and i am gonna have 2 western digital 500 gb (7200 rpm) drives (sata 2 3gb/sec)
my question is even though the board supports raid.. i was talking to a friend the other day and he said that instead of buying a VelociRaptor or a ssd..that if i buy 2 of the same drives and put them in raid 0 you would get the same speed as buying a raptor or a ssd. he said the key is to buy 2 of the same exact drives and buiing the right raid controller card.

so my main question is..which is the best raid controller card that i should buy for max performance?

thanks

I think the onboard controller will have such a small performance hit compared to a dedicated one that you should be just fine using it. Sure, a dedicated one will give you better performance, but it's likely to be too minimal to really matter, or even be noticeable. Unless you're planning to run a server, in which case you've chosen the wrong type of motherboard.
