Unlikely anyone still visits here, but if anyone does...
I never got around to buying this PC, but my old one has just given up the ghost.
Any alterations to the last list that was posted? Obviously it will be cheaper now, and new stuff will have arrived so interesting to see whats what! Still keeping same GFX Card & PSU. |

Yeah, someone else has mentioned it would be worth going for a better monitor. So will have a look.
Someone has also said that the IvyBridge processor isn't worth the extra premium they cost in comparison to the SandyBridge. From what I have read Ivy Bridge is worth the extra (£5 in this case)
Any more input? |

Why not go with AMD for your PC? The CPUs are cheaper and they're plenty powerful. You'll save money and have some left over for better, stronger hardware. I know the most expensive Intel CPU is far superior to the most expensive AMD CPU, but trust me, you won't see the difference. AMD CPUs are smoking fast. |
As a general rule of thumb I dont over-clock, and the general consensus of everything I have read, is that Intel is better stock and AMD are better for Overclockers... however I have also heard AMD have fallen behind Intel.
I loved my old ATI card, but I cant comment on the current situation. |

I agree with what most people are saying here. Go for the i5 2500k or higher. Try and stick to the intel chips with the "k" on the end for the moment.
This is not really the best game to be tested on because its a horrible game but its the only table I could find.

You will find that the i5 2500k has a graphics processor on it which helps towards your games that are high on CPU graphics.

My next computer upgrade coming soon is going to be the i5 2500k and also you be better off going for one at the moment because they are the equilavant of an i7. |

Except all those processors are old tech... lol Look into the Ivy Bridge processors (2012), not the Sandy Bridge ones (2011). Sandy's had the onboard Intel 3000, Ivys have the Intel 4000.
Got a quad core Ivy i7 in my laptop, its an insane chip. The onboard is capable of running Diablo 3 at 30-40fps - reasonable. But then I realised it was using the onboard instead of the NVidia card (stupid Optimus had 'auto selected' the 'best' card... yeah.) The real power is the grunt it provides tho, nothing troubles it.
Any serious gamer will not use the onboard tho, they're still vastly inferior to a discrete card. |

The Windows 8 interface has been designed by a 4 year old. Its utterly hideous and actually made me investigate Ubuntu on my laptop for the first time. Its CENSORED backwards with an annoying start SCREEN instead of a start menu (gone!). The Windows you know has changed... and its not for the better.
Sticking with Windows 7 for the main PC, anyone that actually likes the Windows 8 interface needs their head checking.
Win7 is the Windows you should be using... XP support is dead whilst Vista was just a resource hog. Had to use XP for the first time in a few years a couple of weeks ago... its just so slow / incapable these days. |

Still waiting to get my new PC as I have been on holiday and bit short on cash. I will stick with Windows 7 I think. I use VB6 for a project I'm working on and Windows 7 has a few issues running it, so not expecting Windows 8 to be any kinder! |

Just as an FYI. I ended up getting my PC!
Corsair Carbide 200R (Case)
Corsair TX650 (PSU)
LiteOn DVD RW (DVD)
Intel Core i5 3570k 3.4Ghz (CPU)
Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H (Mobo)
G-Skill 8GB (2x4G DDR3 1600 RipjawX (RAM)
Nvidia GeForce GTX480 1.5GB (GFX Card)
OCZ 120GB Vertex 3 SSD (Primary HDD)
Seagate 1TB Barracuda (Secondary HDD)
Windows 7 Pro x64 (OS)
Really impressed with it! Was worried it would run really hot due to reviews of the GTX480, but it's running pretty cool so far. Not had any issues with heat and it seems pretty damn quick! Haven't got any "new" games to give it a proper test on, but have played 1 round of Starcraft 2 which was lovely! Although I have a crappy old CRT which is being upgraded to a LED LCD Samsung at the end of the month! |

I got a 24 inch LED TV that I use as a monitor. It is high def. I use it when surfing the Internet. I mostly play video games on what is now considered a Tiny LCD TV (42 inch). I tell you tho. The picture on the LED is a lot better. When this TV goes out that is what I am going to replace it with. An LED TV. They have a 80 inch that has my attention.
Most newer TV (Especially LED) can be used as a monitor. I can't tell the difference in the game with a monitor & a TV as a monitor. At least with the TV, you'll have a back up Television if ever needed.
The only upgrade I plan on doing to this PC to replace the hard drive with a flash drive. Just waiting for the price on larger hard drives to go down even farther. You know like 100 dollars for a 350+ Gigabyte drive. I am too cheap to pay more right now.
No plans on upgrading to Windows 8 either. I am happy with Windows 7. It seems that Windows 8 is more geared for tablets and touch screens. |

Yeah, I'm planning on getting a new monitor. The Samsung I'm looking at is 21.5" (22").
We have a large LED LCD Samsung TV which is amazing, but I want a dedicated PC monitor and I'm not willing to pay extra for the TV functionality as we already have a spare TV for the bedroom.
The SSD I bought was about £85/£90 for a 120GB. I wasn't going to bother initially but decided to bite the bullet and glad I did!
With regards to Windows, I haven't used 8 but I'm not impressed from what I have seen/read. |

I'm waiting for the price on the 350+ Gig drives to go down. It's the smaller driver like yours that I've seen for about $120.00, which is good but I need the bigger drive. |
