To start off with, you can find the trailer here - www.rockstargames.com

The city it self looks massive and it looks like they maybe recreating San Andreas. The VINEWOOD sign gave it away . If they have gone for that, this means they are using the same engine they used in Red Dead Redemption, there is no doubt about it. That engine is called RAGE.

If you look at Red Dead Redemption, the level was huge. It was bigger than San Andrea's it self. If this GTA V is as big as we think, then imagine the multiplayer proportion... OMG! I just jizzed in my pants.
I am looking forward to this release.
One thing, for you single player muppets out there, is we need some information about the characters we may encounter.

There is rumours that there will be multiple characters to play as in the game. It sounds like they are going for the GTA IV Episodes from Liberty City approach, where the stories connect with the orginal GTA IV with Niko Bellic.

Now I am just making assumptions here, but the street bum, near the end of the trailer, holding the sign, looks like Niko from GTA IV. The black guy being chased by the police and helicopter through a back alley, looks like CJ.

Are rockstargames trying to merge all the GTA games together?
I am seeing references from
GTA III
GTA Vice City
GTA San Andreas
GTA IV.

This is going to be massive. I am excited!

What are your thoughts?

Same old crap rolled up into a big ball of the same old crap. I'm tired of the whole GTA thing. I think Red Dead was a nice change because of the time and location. GTA 5 is still the same old GTA 3 formula just better looking with updated gameplay mechanics. They need to let us play in places that you can't live in these days. Like the Wild West in Red Dead. The games got good graphics on par with Red Dead but I'm sure it's gonna feel just like GTA 4. Vice City was different because you were in the 80's. LA Noire was cool because you were playing a character from a generation long gone. I wish they'd make an open world game in Feudal Japan. Not trying to bring you down, just giving my 2 cents. To each his own.

I hear you!
To be fair, you have a good opinion there. They made old generation stuff with Red Dead, and LA Noire. I tell you what would be a great thing to see out of GTA... a Futuristic GTA?
Not modern GTA, but one aimed at the time zone of the future. Flying cars, robots. It be like playing Futurama but hey, id love to see what the future could become or at least rockstargames idea of the future. Obviously, crime would still exsist in the future. People could be selling a drug called Space Rocks, committing crime and shooting tiny Lazer Beams (Pew Pew). Would be ideal.

I thought about the future before, but not sure it would plan out. would be a hell of a challenge but would love to see it!

Loved the trailer, I'm hoping its a massive place as well.

GTA 3 was exceptional.
GTA:VC was amazing I loved it, probably my favourite setting
GTA:SA was really good, loved the size of it, but it didnt have the same punch as the 2 before.
GTA4, just isn't that great. Its good graphics and what not but its lacking in the Gameplay element I feel.

The original 2D, top down GTA was cool. Its been crap since they went 3D.

Completely agree.

Except GTA:SA-MP, that was fun. SA single player was crap though.

EDIT: @Spikey: It's set in Los Santos.

I think a futuristic city would be great. Flying cars, mechs, laser cannons, an above and below the clouds sections of the city. Crazy idea.

It'd never happen. Unlike the original top-down GTA games, the primary market for the GTA games nowadays is the "urban music" market, and they aren't exactly the type to appreciate nor understand a futuristic setting. If it was a game aimed at nerds, it'd be plausible.

Oh! the ones that you could run over in a straight line haha?

That was great in GTA2 because when you killed them, you get someone saying "ELVIS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING!" with the text on the screen lol .

If Call of Duty has taught us anything, it's that console gamers will buy the same game 50 times over if it's got a new picture on the box and maybe a new weapon skin.

Hahaha! That is so true. MW3 was a major disappointment in my opinion. Its more of an expensive map pack that ive bought, rather than a game. This is because IW or Activision went lazy, not forgetting that they also lost or fired most of their staff. 2 members of staff were fired for Gross mis-conduct then they changed reason to "They were secretly making deals with EA" (Something on those lines).

It's even worse for PC gamers who have crashes in MW3, when they are presented with the error message "Modern Warfare 2 has encounterd a problem and had to close".

The multiplayer is much worse than MW2 and Black Ops. Extra stupid care packages to use in the game to kill people. I play MW3 multiplayer really badly, but in MW2, I was quite good.

Anyways, enough ranting about MW3, GTA V is this topic.

The GTA V map was leaked a couple of days ago, but I think this image is fake.

It is almost simular to San Andreas but about 1/4 of the size of it.

What do you think?

There has been writtings from Rockstargames that this is the biggest project they have ever worked on. Its going to be bigger than L.A. Noire, Read Dead Redemption, and GTA IV.
I cannot wait .

GTA4 was REALLY small compared to SA.

Indeed it was Goober. I cannot image GTA V being any bigger than GTA IV and hitting anywhere near as close as GTA SA.

They have made massive modifications to their engine from GTA SA to GTA IV, but for the amount of details put in to GTA IV, you can only go so far with the size of the map, depending on the detail.
If they have somehow managed to tweak the engine a little bit to support both, then thats going to be terrific.

Red dead redemption uses the same engine and that world was huge, so i would not be surprised if the size of the world is close to the size of SA.

You forget one thing though... How much detail did Red Dead Redemption have in it? Not as much as GTA IV has. Considering that 80% of the map in RDR was mainly geomentry work with hills, mountains and rivers. There was many towns in RDR, but not big enough to consider as much detail. So they were able to create a massive map for the game considering that they only used small models for buildings and they were well spaced out with the towns being in different area's. The grass and plant life would probably not take up that much resource. It is a shame that they never released it on the PC because it was no "Viable". Article Here.

You got to remember that PC games can only handle so much, but console games can go so much further than PC games. You got to take in to account of the millions of different PC hardware configurations and the graphics card compatibility.
So you kinda get stuck there.
