I miss the old L4Y days. Back when it was running Unified. Loadsa people around. Fun banter. Now all we get is the odd chit chat about PF and a bucket load of Eve-Spam.
All the effort and hard work I put in to the Starcraft 2 section. It never even got off the ground. I scraped the internet for months looking for info and tried to get topics going. It just never worked. Sigh.
Anyone else miss the old days? |

Version... 5 or 6 or something like that.
I know the site has practically dropped off the face of the planet.
I looked at trying to stop the Eve spam, couldn't access the admin panel that controls the RSS feeds - its broken. I'll go poking directly in the DB now... |

I want to get the site back up and running a bit more, design revamp has been on the cards for a while and new PC was started with a new Unified so taht the game can link with forums under one login etc.
I should probably stop work on the actual game and put some effort in on the site part. That way I can get that bit up and running and enable the game later on
Now... we're on free servers provided by my work. We can't return to the old days of 20+ sections, hundreds of Gb of files and 1-2Tb/month bandwidth usage... at least not without moving back to our own servers. Thats something I'll look at in the future but naturally I'd rather stick with the free servers
Aside from forums for chat and PC itself (later in the year) what would you like to see here? What should the focus of the site be?
I know a lot of the old gang haven't been around in a while, we do still have regulars however and its you guys I want to hear from. Its our community! |

Well TBH, this is probably the most active thread I have seen on the site! 
No-one really posts general stuff any more.
TFIF - what you up to this weekend?
What are you listening to?
what car do you drive? etc...
The "general" stuff seems to have disintegrated, but at the same time I think its because that's not why people come here, its more for the specifics (or was).
It's tough to explain what I want from the site, but just more chat/conversation/interaction. But its not exactly narrowing it down much!
Maybe others can suggest? Unfortunately whatever ally we take, there are competing sites out there, and we need to build up to compete. I think PC will help though.

I think alot of effort is required by the members to be more active, but atm the site could probably be streamlined...

Find and bring back splitter, foe, mad ferrit, T-mine, Dvl IAC, killiad, RHF, DG, Genxer. Gonna be really difficult.
The community has gone and so far there is nothing to appeal a new one, I'm afraid

As Inf3rnus says, you were complaining about the lack of general talk in the forums these days. How do you expect us as users to do that when you lock them after they have gone for so long? Its just wrong on many levels. It ruins the "Fun" factor of this site.

Look at a thread as a whole, not as that particular one... Someone posts "Hi, I have an issue with my Xbox... blah blah", then along the way the thread gets de-railed, it jumps from Xbox problems, to a game on the xbox, to a different game, to that different game on the PS3, then it goes on about the pros/cons of an xbox. Not very helpful for the OP.
If you want to talk about X and the thread (started by the OP) is talking about Y, how is that relevant and/or helpful. I don't want to piss on your bonfire, its just make a new thread, which has been done for you random discussion. >HERE<

I would rather have a formed discussion about something in a relevant thread than jump into a random topic and start discussing something and bringing it off track.
Example:
This thread & post. It could be construed as off-topic, however its discussing the site and what changes to make so the post is valid as it has some relevance.

I remember when it was more along the lines of 20 users and 40 guests online.
I remember a particular thread on who had been online with the lowest amount, and we struggled to make it online with 1 other person. Now its a challenge to have over 10! |

Really? I thought it was the constant bickering of some users that caused it, along with the lack of uptake of new games. We had new game sections, and we pushed them but there is only so much we can do. I listed SC2 as the example. Check the forum in that section. I posted numerous times trying to generate interest. Spent hours uploading gameplay footage on my rubbish net connection.
