I'd say newer cars with high mileage isn't as bad as old cars that already have high mileage and adding a lot to it per day...obviously because every piece on the has aged... so you're better off driving a lot with new cars or do frequent service on the old one + overhauling.[/quote]

Very true!

How is 100.000 bad for 7 years anyway?

Aye, its not bad per-say it was more a shock that our little 14 Year old Rover has less miles under its belt! On top of that, the BMW which is a year younger has done 2.5x as many miles as my ZR!

It's crazy how they don't even care about gas prices, pushing the pedal like they have limited time, especially at 4.00am while I was doing ~56mph on unlimited autobahn just tired of the long drive, trying to keep the car alive and saving gas, rolling down hills with zero consumption (that's when I did 56mph ^^). But they...they were going nuts.
I could save 45-55$ the way back home (440miles) by just going slow at night. lol

I normally try to watch my consumption, but I can't help but plant my foot sometimes to get going on the higher speed limit roads Doesn't do much for my MPG though! Think im averaging around 36MPG, but haven't serviced the car since I got it in August so hopefully will do it shortly and see a nice MPG return! Also tempted to get it re-mapped for economy/power. Gives a better Torque curve with improved MPG. Mind you it costs alot for the remap!

(few days later after the long ride the (not old) belt on the engine has snapped off because a ball bearing blocked - like I've seen it coming)

you caught it in time, or has it caused damage?

Huh what.....Beatonator keep that peanut butter away from me.

@Morgoth - I am still driving my old clunker. My metallic midnight blue 2007 Chevrolet Impala with soon to reach 43,000 miles. Which I guess is low compare to you guys considering that I bought it back in December 2006.

BTW that isn't me driving the car. It is however the style and color I own. Still stock nothing special added.

Roughly same sort of mileage as mine really.
Very nice. What happened to getting a Camaro?

Quoting REDxFROG
caused damage.. no but the belt now has 'notches' but I think it's fine.

Your very lucky! Normally if the cambelt snaps you would have needed new valves etc...

When I first got our Rover it wasn't starting, and eventually they traced it to low compression. They had to rebuild the entire top half of the engine, new valves etc...
So 2 years ago, the Rover had a complete new head Should see it right for a fair few miles yet!

Going to sound like a little boy racer, but does anyone go to Car Meets?
I go to a MG - Rover Car Club meet on the south coast. They also held Pride of Longbridge (LB = Factory where they were all built for generations) last weekend but I didnt go, hoping to go next year as its incredible the different cars you have turn up!

From our January meet.

Eep! That BMW is newer than my ZR, and a CENSORED load newer than our Rover (98' Plate)!

14 Year old Rover - < 80,000 Miles
7 Year old BMW - <100,000 Miles

And I bet its had less work done to it

For 100k miles, I've had standard stuff only picked up by service/MOTs - a wheel bearing started moaning 2 years ago and a suspension bush "with excessive play" last year.

People think 100k miles is "bad" but in reality its not, it probably was 15+ years ago but these days cars are built to last that long easily. They say that the wear and tear on a 120k mile diesel is roughly the same as a 100k mile petrol engine as the diesel RPM is lower - less engine thrashing.

The average annual UK mileage is considered to be 15k these days. Cars with less than that over their lifespan are considered to be 'low mileage' for their age. Mine's not quite 7 - 7*15 = 105k. I'm pretty much smack bang on the money...

Sadly I'm doing 20k miles a year so the car isn't going to stay 'average mileage' for long

Heh, so far on the Rover...

-Cambelt
-4 Tyres
-New backbox
- Wiper motor (on order)
Love the Rover K-Series engines. For the size they produce impressive figures!

True about diesel too... Couple of the guys at the meet I have been attending have Diesels, 2.0L Turbo's can easily pump out 160BHP and one came up on eBay about 6 months ago with 400,000 Miles on the clock and was apparently still pulling like a train.

City, I might do 5 mph over the limit. Highway...oh heck no.

Interstate-90 going from Syracuse, NY straight to Elyria, OH:
Speed Limit: 65 mph, or 104.6 kph

My speed when no-one is around: 138 mph, or 222 kph
And I havnt even topped it out yet The only reason I let off the pedal was I was coming to the crest of a hill that I couldn't see over.

With highway mpg/kpg, I have a neat little feature of the engine. When I am cruising at "normal" speeds, there is a feature called Multi Displacement System (MDS), that shuts off fuel and spark to 4 of the cylinders when they arnt needed.

NASCAR...................... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quote
Chevrolet and Ford have been the two biggest competitors in NASCAR among auto manufacturers for years. Other names like Pontiac, Dodge and Toyota have come, gone and returned, but these two names have been around since the sport's inception. More than a few drivers display a fierce loyalty to their brand of car, and the fans do the same. Over the past several years, though, Chevy has had the most success on the track.
