Primary database suffered some sort of hard failure, it just went offline - corrupting data in the process. We operate a master-slave system, master used for read/writes, slave used for reads only. It was the master that failed however so system could only read data out of the DB. We took the decision to purposely take the webservers out of the loadbalancer and stop users hitting a 'read only' service whilst the master was sorted out. Currently running on just the master as the slave is catching up still. We've been considering new DB setups for a while - this will probably accelerate decision making! I guessed there was a major DB issue. I like the idea of Master/Slave set up. Seems better than ours here. We have Mirrors. One principal mirrored. I think the principal databases are distributed across the 2 though. Is it your job to look after them then? Trying to find old players. Anyone about? The problem is that because its master-slave and not master-master, you cannot write to the slave - it'll break replication and generally cause really bad things. My job is to write the code that runs on them and manage those that look after the DB's (and all the servers in general).
