well i dont need help but i found a little discovery of how to open the properties of the cutscene event without RED crashing!!! and its simple too (dont have to look away on the freelook)
im not sure if ppl know this way but here it is:
when RED loads up and u load up ur map (make sure u have ur cutscene event in the map already) [previous time using RED] just go to group mode right click the cutscene event and click on properties and then ur in! no need to turn away or be far away from the map in the freelook. now im not sure if im lucky but it works for me

this topic is popping up more often now.
PASTE!!
making cutscene events work
Do theese steps in object mode
1. Place your camera.
2. Place your cutscene event
3. Rebuild (space)
4. Quick calculate lighting (W, shift+W, L, shift+L)
5. Quick save (crtl+S)
6. Hide/unhide (W, shift+W)
7. Select your cutscene and press properties
A. If you already have your cutscene event/camera you do not have to repeat steps 1 & 2.
B. This does not work 100% of the time you may end up having to do this 10 times or so before RED feels like working again.
Good. Now we might have some decent SP maps to play.
If I ever get to where I am going, will I know when I am there?

Also if you noticed, i have this topic Sticky from now on. Im sure this will keep some others from posting any more topics about this and can just look here.
D2K, i have been using your method for cutscenes lately and it has served me well. The only thing i can add is that i have found it also helps if as many brushes as possible are hidden ... ie ones that are not involved in the cutscene (but i guess that goes without saying).
Ezar I will be sure to try your method next time i look at a cutscene.

Good one Ezar, haven't done that yet.
There are many ways but most of them aren't working on complex maps. Complex maps are the problem with custcenes. It works very easy with a small room.
D2ks "trick" for example doesn't work 98% on big maps lol.
I've also seen one where you have to twist the camera around, thats one of the betters, it was annoying too.
Maybe I'll use urs some time..
Trigger I think I saw the twist trick on your redtec site. If this from Ezar really works you should edit yours This new way isn't even worth to write down - its too easy LOL

well i havent tried to use a cutscence on big complex levels (what was the map i found out my way? ) well anyways now i think about it maybe RED has a limit to how much RED can do at one time. say like a point system (for example). now say 250 points is the limit of duty RED can take right any higher will result in a crash (remember this is a hypothectical hunch). opening a cutscence properties takes about 200 points (for example) now if ur freelook is looking at the map it also add points. now say about 5 points per brush or more. so maybe thats why looking away methods works because isnt using its "data limit" by showing ur map and trying to open the props of a cutsence event. (of course this is all a hunch)
Ive been using ur method Ezar, and it gives me results quite quickly. Sometimes I forget to do anything and I still manage to open the properties...weird.
Anyway, good luck to everyone whos experimenting with cutscenes.
