Quoting mad_ferrit | Sorrow doesn't exist anymore. The last I heard she was pleased that she managed to free up 5 gig on her hard-drive by deleting all things to do with Red Faction. Damn philistine
I like the idea of the Art Comp. Would be better if the maps were playable too, otherwise there's no real point. I already have my idea so.... |
Playable maps would work (Dm- ALl around the world) prime example of fitting art into a playable level.
Perhaps the map IS the giant staue? (set in a space ship, taj mahal. etc. Just something with alot of detail.

the map doesnt necessarily have to have decent gameplay. Just nice for viewing |
Goober, if you're reading this. Stop reading peoples signatures and learn how to use UnrealScript or something!!!! |

But as mad_ferrit said, there's no real point to just look at a thing in RED, it woudlnt be appreciated for very long. Although a playable map like this may be very laggy.
They could always be SP???? |

I think that you guys are overlooking the fact that it is a peice of art. I see alot of good comeing from this compitition. Perhaps only a screen shot would be submitted, and you can use any editor you want!
My idea is that we theme it any way we want to. No need for theme, just do what inspires you to create. Who knows? Maybe someone will come up with something really eye popping!
I support this idea fully, and I reccomend that this should be brought through. Keep the limits away, and just say this:
"Artistic compitition for any 3d video game editor. Graded by detail, originality, color, style, and use of the tools in the editor."
Any more suggestions? |

Great ideas! Esca!!
But if we allow different editors people can be disadvantaged by the limits of the editor, game graphics etc.
A farcry map would look alot better than a Delta Force one.
I dont think we should have a theme either
Submitting a screen is a good idea, but the screen could easily modified. Part of the idea of the mapping is that its 3D and you can look all round it.
Thanks for your thoughts. |

Eos, we don't know what its 'supposed' to be yet. We are just brainstorming ideas to try and makes this cool.
I want to get lots of input in, so everyone can enjoy it. |

Yeah you have to keep a level playing field. Someone using 3ds Max will absolutely crap on someone using RED editor |

Hmmm, we might have to get some polls up for this one.
Should the level be playable etc. |

Yeah I see no reason why not. In fact Art was a theme we were considering for RFU2. I was quite looking forward to it had it been chosen! Some people fail to realsie that a map can look good as well as play well at the same time!!! |

Mmmmmm, like RF Manor
I think that should be the kind of thing we want in this comp. The judging should be less focused on gameplay and moreso on the looks. That is just for this comp |

Memories of suffocation come flooding back.
So this is what is going to happen.
Make a beatiful map. Judging will mostly be based on looks.
- Theme or no Theme?
- any other things we need to sort out? |

Someone who can lead it and be willing to spend the time needed. I think being the lead of a competition/project is a lot more work that people know of. Oh, and maybe try to get a list of people who would be willing to take part? |
A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools. |

I'd be happy to lead it, maybe open up a cdc for something for it. We can run polls and such makes it easier. Good place to show the developing artworks etc
Basic Outline of Competition
- Create detailed and beatiful map using RED editor.
- Judging is focused on looks rather than gameplay. Eg:
Gameplay: /10
Brushwork: /10
Textures: /10
So looks are out of 20 and gameplay out of 10. More points being allocated to looks.
I'm going to create a CDC and I would greatly welcome people's opinions, help, or entrance in the competition. |
