Are you talking about just creating a room once in a game or are you talking about starting your dedicated server?

What you might have is a .vpp file size that is zero bit. Look through all of your .vpp files in your Multi folder and find that one and delete it, who knows you might have more than one. That usually solves the problem.

What an old thread you resurected here. i wasn't even born registered then yet.
Download RFSA.
It's the simplest way.

A DEDICATED server means your server is dedicated to allowing other players to play. That means that usually you can't play while you run a dedicated server.
I've heard it is possible to change RF default port in order to play while you run a dedi. Ask RHF.
Else buy another computer and a routeur. Ask Frank.

Now the questions that need to be answered by you are:
1. What operating system are you using?
2. If you are using WindowsXP do you have the built in firewall enabled?
3. Do you have another software firewall running like ZoneAlarm or Norton Firewall?
4. Are you trying to run the server while behind a router?
5. Like molodiets kind of stated, are you trying to run a dedicated server and play on the same machine?

I have a 512 kb/s DSL, a Linux router, i always have my McAffee firewall turned off, i have Windows XP Pro i always have the built in firewall turned off, i still cannot create Dedicated or in-game servers. I can't figure this out!

Also, could you tell me how people can play in their own dedicated servers (my friend wanted to know this one).

he can play in his own on his pc by adding a server and typing in his ip or by going in lan only mode and doing the same.

That's why I love these forums. Same thing was happening to me, and of course, Frank was absolutely correct. Now the question is how did that file sneak in there? Thanks Frank!

I just realized that this thread is way old. No matter. Still good stuff

you have to force a port in rfsa and in ur rf launcher.

firs in RFSA put in a port number like 7755 then start server.

then start ur rf launcher and go to setup, then network, then under force port put a different number then what u put in the RFSA like 7756.
then click ok and run rf and you should be able to see the servers again and your server... but if ur behind a router idk if you'll be able to see your server and idk if others will be able to see it because routers tend to stop your server from showing up...

Then you will need to forward the correct ports to the game.
In this case the default port for Red Faction is 7755.

To find how to do it you will need to have access to the router(password) and know what name brand of router you have. After you have all that then youy should go to this site and find the instruction on how to forward a port.

Portforward.com

BTW to know what your PC LAN IP address(which you will need to know to be able to forward the port on your PC) and if you are running WindowsXP™ then do this:

1. Hit the "Windows Key"
2. Click on "Run"
3. Type in "cmd /k ipconfig"

A small black window will pop up and under IP address you will find what it is. For instance mine for this computer is: 168.192.1.101

Cface the information applies to you too.

Alright, here's what i did.
I created a dedi server on default port, then while the server was running i went to setup and erased that command line (in Misc.) and went to network and changed the port to 7756 so i could play in server, i went into RF and the server showed up on the server list for me, i asked two people to see if it showed up for them, both said no. What the [Censored] is going on here?!

I even told my friend to add my server by clicking add server and typing the ip address, it didnt work. I have a Linksys Model NR041, would that have something to do with all this?

Can you create more than one server on one computer?
