Before i could download now i can't...

The operators are basically telling people that if they have slow internet to not use download managers and bug off...

not nice...not everyone can afford to live in big cities and that is why they are countrysides were living is cheaper and of course you don't get the "perks" of the big city and that is the way things go.

There is a lot of upset people here but the operators are seemingly ignoring those upset people.

Ah well people will move their business someplace else..if you are not lazy and look a bit you will find that most files here can be found elsewhere and be less troublesome to download.

i don't blame anyone here who are managing this website but if it was not really broken....why fix it the way it is now ????

Everyone actually IS missing the point.
We are NOT against 56kers.

We are just not supporting download managers anymore, because most download managers open up multiple connections and thus take up more bandwith which leads to unequal usage of the small amount of available bandwith for downloading off l4y.

You can download files fine from here if you are on 56k, disable your download manager.
If this however means that it will be troublesome for you to download the larger files from this site, we are very sorry, but this is the best solution so far. Luckily most larger files hosted on this site are available on other sites, so if you really have to get that file, I suggest that you go somewhere else.

Don't think however that we do not care about you, we are still thinking other options through, but don't expect the downloadsystem to change within a week or something.

A Download manager that works fine, that fits into the site rules by opening 1 connection? I have it. its called "OPERA"!

Opera contains an inbuilt download manager it allows you to pause, cancel resume downloads. all in a netaly tabbed window. you can have several downloads going at the same time!

Enjoy!

EDIT: Click the image to be able to read it better

That could be more helpful if you could tell everyone where to find this program.

To DG: I realize you are not against "56Kers"; they need to realize that most download managers can at least be forced to only make one connection. But that is not the problem, at least not for me; the problem is that it asks for a user name and password whenever I try to download something, and my name and pass for this site don't work. Having broadband would probably not change this. I know that changing the download system is not an option...so if I can't find a way to make it work, I will have to go elsewhere permanently.

It's just a browser.

Try editing your profile. Before i edit mine i was considered inexistant by the site (no profile).
Failing that you can create another account because it's seems the problem is linked to that account.

This is a bug in some poorly written download managers. They interpret the 'forbidden' message as 'authorisation required' and therefore ask you for the username and password.

Which isn't what the server asked for.

Hence there is nothing I can do to change this - its the software you are using that is causing that problem.

Molodiets posted a link to, it isnt just a web browser. Its a Web browser with a Download manager incorporated, Voice Recognition system, Tabbed browsing, Possibly the most secure browser on the net IMO.

Im uisng a slightly older version, however I believe Garner is running the newest version perhaps he can tell you more about the new features

The voice recognition is pretty good.

Mouse gestures are something that every other browser really lacks...

When it comes to security Opera has one thing over Firefox...

If you've got a SSL certificate simply by naming all your links https Firefox will label a site as secure. Even if the actual page content isn't not on a secure server.

IE and Opera warn you that the site isn't doing things right

Found this out when designing the payment systems at work.

Yes the mouse gestures are really good. When I first started using Opera I thought it was stupid but it is so easy, and on top of that it saves the last page you where on so it doesnt have to Re-load it.

I don't really understand why that browser is called "Opera"...but it works! It is able to download files from here, even on my extremely screwed up and 56K system. If you haven't been able to download from here, I highly recommend this program--not only is it free, but it is also only 3.6 megabytes!!!

Here is the whole page read by Opera. . Can get boring quick.
You may need some time to load it even if you're on broadband (8.44 Mb)
