Other languages will be on their way in due course... we did Dutch first purely for the reason one of our staff members is from that part of the world and I wanted a language to test the system out.
Spanish, French and German will probably all make their way here eventually... |

Then all of these quirky languages will get removed (except for Dutch because of DG), because it will use too many cycles on the processor and slow the site down, like the moveable navagation menus of the old site - too much load on the site, and got removed.
But, I do feel the staff are missing the point, articles, posts, and all other news posts are all English. Are you expecting foreign staff members to translate everything that comes in? And find a corresponding link to an articles related language? Hmm... |

If I remember correctly the posts/articles arent translated. The whole idea is for the majority of the menus and stuff to change language helping those who cant speak english as well as the majority. to translate articles would take a long time.  |

Yup, its purely for navigation purposes. Helping people to get around the site to get the files they need.
If they dont know how to speak English all they'll be doing is just that anyway. I know its all I do when I end up on a non-English speaking site.
And on the subject of processor cycles - no. The site was designed to always include a language file. Whether that language file is English or any other language makes no difference to the site at all. |

Garner, may I suggest putting flags at the top of the site then? So people can just switch language.
Still, I do think you are missing the point, these foreigners are going to start wanting translations of the files uploaded. |

I think you're sadly mistaken there... we've never had a request for any file uploaded to be translated. In 4.5 years.

We've had plenty of requests for the site itself to be translated however... hence the new feature.

Hmm Garner, So how do these foreign users register to change the language, if the registration page isn't in Dutch?
Guests need the ability to pick a language by having flags at the top of the site. It was possible under guest to do this: http://www.levels4you.com/account.l4y?setlanguage=dutch, But how would your average Joe Bloggs guest know how to do that?
I'm saying, with these new features, users will probably want more and more translated, files will probably be next.
Because I can see it's fundemental flaws right now.
Another one, what control system do you have when a French staff member leaves, you create a new section, and can't have it translated? |

Do any of you know about babel fish  ? it can translate pretty much any language. I go to site with languages all the time.
