However... However... However!!!! Not to stick up for these "criminals" but, What about all the other servers with weapons disabled? Should people start lawsuits against them because they could not win because the weapons were disabled? You have a good point... its just kinda to the extreme side of things! |

(CC)Cam is the real modder but that isnt his ip, he is on dialup connected via TSN and that is a cable ip thru Bigpond.
I have his ip but dont consider it appropriate to post it here, if anyone wants the ip for server banning purposes im me with the server name and ip and i will supply it |

Its just thaat some modders have been screwing with thosew particular servers - it happened at swiftgames and have fun and [CC] no mods servers yesterday. |

The reason why you cant shoot is because someone joined the server and tossed 50 mines then left. 50 is the max number of bullets that can exsist at the same time in the RF world. 
after 4 pages of bickering i thought you would have figured this out by now... |

Its easy to get 50 mines out, you dont need 32 people to do it. all you need is "semi-automatic" mines (with a delay of 0) then all you gotta do is throw them until there is 50. big whoop!
and then when you leave the server, i think that the bullets or mines stay behind.
but 32 people running around that cant shoot eachother would be entertaining because most of them wouldn't know whats going on. |

i would assume from your reply that you have moved on from the game D2k, and dont really care what happens in the servers, well there are still quite a lot of that do! |

If that is so , plz tell me how U can gather 50 remote mines?? on any map for that matter, unless Ur playin with Ur self........  |

Ok- I know that cams chat logs say Bing and chris were modding as well but does anyone have proof? An CC is more than just chris,pimp,cam and bing- so try and remember people not to judge an entire clan by a few people yeah i know some people will get mad at me for this but i have been messaged by a certain CC member professing his innocence saying it was all a settup by cam to give the clan a worse name,I chose to belive the innocent until proven guilty line ENM,ITCH? you guys have proof that more than cam was involved? If so please e-mail it to me you both have my contact info- There are 3 CC on my msn and the one who proclaims his innocence pointed me to this topic via msn messenger saying cam is trying to F* the (CC) name- yes i know they have modded before well 1 in paticular but no reason to hang them all based on a clan tag- ITCH your (AK) guys had issues too would you like to be hung for the sins of your clan? Actually, you bring a voice of reason. I'll admit this was starting to turn into a witchunt, however we never planned to sue the entire CC clan for their behavior. Just the 3 involved, and before a judge will even print out the supeona, you have to have a good bit of proof.
I know all about judging a clan by a few members. Back 3 months ago, I believed the entire .Z:. clan was full of modders, simply because every time I went in a server, anyone with .Z:. as their name turned out to be a modder. Then a few months ago, I had a bit of a conversation and found out that the "members" was actually just one person smurfing as other members. He's since been kicked out of the clan.
However, our biggest problem is that the three people don't respect the rules of combat, and they give themselves an unfair advantage in doing so. They could very easily lay 49 mines then rail the rest of us to death with little possibility of getting killed. It is the possibility of that occuring that angers me the most.
Granted, blocking mines would be an easy solution, however they'd find a way around this. Also, mines are liked by some people, as a strategy for base protection, etc.
As I stated earlier, I over-reacted because it seems that every time I get to enjoy a game, some modder will slowly shut it down. It isn't just myself who notices this. Oftentimes my friends will have similar problems. Modders are a blight on the community, however are actually needed. Without modders, there'd be only 2 groups of people, the skilled and the n00bs. When just these two groups exist, the n00bs, realizing their lack of skill and inability to gain any real skill, become frustrated and mod. There is a game, which I consider the ultimate game, Netrek, which has completely abolished modding. Some would call this a haven, and indeed it is. However, the problem is that once the skilled people enter a server, the n00bs will all leave, leaving 2 or so people in the game, who are often evenly matched.
Granted the n00bs could create their own servers, however if they all have no skill, luck would designate the winners. All you'd see in a server would be swearing and people logging out. Netrek is still alive, but barely. The skilled have learned to "tone it down" without ruining their own enjoyment. They have learned that their function, for the better of the game as a whole, is to remain at the base and defend it. This promotes teamwork by the n00bs and will allow them to learn strategies key to becomming skilled. Eventually the old skilled will retire and the new ones will take their place. This sort of cycle is key to its survival, however it does tone down the enjoyment. Without the possibility of a massive n00b extinction by a small group of skilled, the n00bs will often stay by their base. Luckily, some skilled will voluntarily limit their own skill (mostly by getting so drunk they can barely see the screen) to force a battle.
As it stands, Netrek is based on a global understanding that once people reach a rank or skill level (such as being able to wipe out half the other team in one swipe), the skilled will reserve themselves to base protection and provoking the n00bs into battle. If RF would adopt such a strategy, it would probably end in failure, as RF still has modders, and the rail gun could be used by lucky n00bs to wipe out the skilled. In some ways, this is for the better, as no provokation would be necessary, however then the skilled would become angry and disown RF. Once the n00bs take over (which has actually occured in another former game of mine, SF (Stellar Frontier)), people won't want to play because there'd be no reason to challenge themselves (well, this was reviewed in the Netrek section).
If you'd like to try the games out, Netrek can be found at www.netrek.org, and SF can be found on www.download.com, or any other mmorpg site. Both are top-down space fighter games, so if they aren't your thing, you'll be very bored by them. Now, if only a site existed for Netrek and SF fans, it would probably still be popular, as people could talk out an agreement. Netrek has an impressive history as being the oldest known online game, as it was developed in the 60s as part of a LAN game at UC Berkley, and was ported to the online world in the mid 90s. SF has been around for almost 10 years, and is based on Netrek. The biggest problem is that Stardock, the developer, forced the programmers to route all information through a myriad servers, instead of a p2p style, like RF and Netrek. Outside of the lag and almost complete lack of players (there are 6 players playing right now (3:45 PM EST) in 5 servers), it was a pretty spiffy game.
Back on topic, you can see my resentment of modders, despite the fact that sometimes they are necessary. Also, it is highly unlikely that we'll press charges, as locating their exact IP would be near impossible. However, we still could start a thread to post their IP addresses on, and any Australians who play RF should check here before playing, and can re-connect to their dialup to get a new IP. |
